For example:
“Presents are the best way to show someone how much you care. It is like this tangible thing that you can point to and say, ‘Hey man, I love you this many dollars-worth.’”
I pick this quote, because I think this craft would be the perfect gift for a new homeowner or just a pal.
I have been searching everywhere for a new welcome mat. I can't seem to find one that is relatively priced and cute. Guess you could say that I'm picky!
I found an awesome tutorial on Painted Rugs at U-Create and decided to give it a whirl!
First, I went to Target and bought a cream rug. My goal was to create a rug similar to this adorable chevron-printed rug:
Next, I needed to find a way to make a chevron template. This was impossible. Until I remembered that I have a Cricut! I rifled through my cartridges and found the "Platinum Schoolbook" cartridge with the zigzag pattern. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but for today (and my first project of this nature) it was perfect!
In the process of searching for chevron patterns, I found a few sites that were very helpful in this process!
I would have used the printable chevron patterns... but what do ya know, my printer was out of ink from printing a 40+ page research paper three times. Oops!
Oh, did I mention I graduated? Yes, it's an exciting feeling. My first project as Master Jordon was this awesome painted rug!
Back on track here!

First, I printed several zigzag patterns and starting taping them to my rug. I had intended on creating blue zig zags to compliment the white rug... but it just didn't work out that way today!
| messy! messy! |
Then the painting began! Ellen Degeneres kept me company throughout this project. This rug was tricky to paint because of the bumpy lines. I used a foam brush to fill the spots.
The finished project turned out pretty neato-skeeto! Next, I want to tackle a welcome mat for my front porch. What design shall I go with? I would love suggestions on patterns and whatnot.

Happy weekend!
