Anywho - my book club picked a new summer read last week. After finishing "Heaven is Here" (amazing!) we are going to read, "Little Bee". We weren't really sure what the book was about going into it because this is the book's description:
WE DON'T WANT TO TELL YOU TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS BOOK.
It is a truly special story and we don't want to spoil it.
Nevertheless, you need to know something, so we will just say this:
It is extremely funny, but the African beach scene is horrific.
The story starts there, but the book doesn't.
And it's what happens afterward that is most important.
Once you have read it, you'll want to tell everyone about it. When you do, please don't tell them what happens either. The magic is in how it unfolds.
Love, love, love A Writer's Notebook by Fletcher. I always read bits and pieces of that to my class. In fact I had one kid tell me last year, "Wow Mrs. K. You really love this Ralph guy." Cracks me up. Enjoy!

Teaching Maddeness
I am a new follower to your blog! I'm reading a few book about literature circles. I want to revamp what I'm doing for next year because I haven't been crazy about my schedule in the past. I taught 4th grade for the past 4 years and am moving up to 5th next year. I'm excited to read more about 5th grade on your blog!!
ReplyDeleteYou've intrigued me with Little Bee . . . . so far I've only had time to finish reading a Thomas Spalding book that my brought bought me called It's Not Just Who You Know. I'm learning about the five floors of relationships and how to effectively connect with people in meaningful ways. So interesting.
ReplyDeleteHey Jordan! Just wanted to say thanks for linking up on my More Teaching Blogs page. Happy Reading!
