"Hey man, I love you this many dollars-worth." - Michael Scott

Are you a Michael Scott fan? If not, you should be. He's the spirit of Dundler Mifflin and it's a shame he won't be there anymore. Although, he has left the world with many hilarious one-liners and perfect explanations about life.

For example:

“Presents are the best way to show someone how much you care. It is like this tangible thing that you can point to and say, ‘Hey man, I love you this many dollars-worth.’”

I pick this quote, because I think this craft would be the perfect gift for a new homeowner or just a pal.

I have been searching everywhere for a new welcome mat. I can't seem to find one that is relatively priced and cute. Guess you could say that I'm picky!

I found an awesome tutorial on Painted Rugs at U-Create and decided to give it a whirl!

First, I went to Target and bought a cream rug. My goal was to create a rug similar to this adorable chevron-printed rug:

Next, I needed to find a way to make a chevron template. This was impossible. Until I remembered that I have a Cricut! I rifled through my cartridges and found the "Platinum Schoolbook" cartridge with the zigzag pattern. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but for today (and my first project of this nature) it was perfect!

In the process of searching for chevron patterns, I found a few sites that were very helpful in this process!

I would have used the printable chevron patterns... but what do ya know, my printer was out of ink from printing a 40+ page research paper three times. Oops!

Oh, did I mention I graduated? Yes, it's an exciting feeling. My first project as Master Jordon was this awesome painted rug!

Back on track here!

Work your magic, Cricut!
First, I printed several zigzag patterns and starting taping them to my rug. I had intended on creating blue zig zags to compliment the white rug... but it just didn't work out that way today!

messy! messy!

Then the painting began! Ellen Degeneres kept me company throughout this project. This rug was tricky to paint because of the bumpy lines. I used a foam brush to fill the spots.

The finished project turned out pretty neato-skeeto! Next, I want to tackle a welcome mat for my front porch. What design shall I go with? I would love suggestions on patterns and whatnot.

reminds me of the ocean... or just a painted rug.
Happy weekend!

  2. Be cautious of what kind of paint you use! The rug is rather rough to walk on now.. haha

  3. You're so crafty! Kudos to you for doing all these fun projects. I did a ton when I was pregnant with Avery, but now that she's here, my time is a bit more limited, so I'll live vicariously through you! By the way, I love your Michael Scott quote, he's the best. "The Office" will not be the same without him! ( :
